Sunday was a tragic day in the racing world with the deaths of drivers Dan Wheldon and Rick Huseman. Wheldon was involved in a 15-car crash in the season ending Indy Car race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Wheldon was 33 and leaves behind a wife and two young sons.
Dirt track racer Rick Huseman and his brother Jeff were killed in a plane crash. Rick Huseman was on his way from a race he had just completed. He was considered a championship contender.
Wheldon's death serves as a reminder of how most people take racing for granted, with a tragedy such as this reminding us that race car drivers put their lives at risk every time they get out on the track. In Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup series race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, driver Jimmie Johnson's car wrecked in a very nasty crash. Fortunately, Johnson was OK though painful memories of Dale Earnhardt Sr's fatal crash in the 2001 Daytona 500 inevitably come to mind.
The deaths of Dan Wheldon along with Rick and Jeff Huseman serve as reminders that life is fragile and precious. It can be mercilessly snuffed out instantly. This is why we should always be ready to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us,"Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for you know not what a day may bring forth" (Proverbs 27:1). James 4:14 tells us,"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth of a little time, then vanisheth away". Do you know Jesus personally? All it takes is a simple prayer : Lord Jesus,I am a sinner,I have sinned against You. I accept Your death, burial, and Resurrection as full payment for my salvation. I repent of all my sin. Thank You for hearing my prayer. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' Name. Amen".
